It was so great to see many of you at the spring booster in Mount Pleasant, MI! This was my first booster as Michigan 1 District Representative. My main presentation was focused on the Sunday / Holiday parcel delivery volunteer list and scheduling. This topic should not be a new one, as we have had Sunday / Holiday parcel delivery since 2015 and the MOU outlining scheduling was signed in 2016. It is very relevant though. In ten years since its signing, both Michigan districts have drifted off to a process of assigning the work and scheduling that is nowhere near what was agreed upon. Last year I worked with USPS designee Michael Booth to rebuild the MI1 POOM E hub and spoke list, as well as the volunteer/non-volunteer list. It was a process that was met with some push back from carriers and postmasters whose offices had previously been happily excluded and the contrasting relief from several carriers that were exhausted from being scheduled every single week or the carriers who wanted the work but prior to enforcing the MOU, were not getting the opportunity. We have since moved on to two more POOM groups in an effort to get complete compliance throughout the district. When done correctly it will relieve the burden for the carriers that have been over scheduled and allow more opportunities for the carriers that want to work on Sundays and Holidays. All this change has brought a ten-year-old subject to the forefront with several carriers and stewards having questions they need answered. Please see the attached slide presentation that was presented to the membership on the subject, and do not hesitate to reach out to your assigned steward if you have questions on this subject or any other subject. Hope to see you all soon at a local meeting!
